Diane's Mug

4 X 4
oil on panel
I've been painting a little thicker lately and I like it because it helps me get a little looser, but I find it hard to refine details a bit.  But I was happy enough with the outcome on this little mug of artist Diane Howard.

  1. Diane looks great! I like your looser thicker style here. Still looks like one of your paintings. The thicker paint makes it harder to photograph, don't you think?

  2. I love the subtle pinks in the cheeks and nose and the great expression in her eyes. Very nice!

  5. you really caught her! - love the serene expression, the perfect eyebrows, the hair, the cheeks, the blueish hue around her eyes...
And I'm especially impressed by how the pale background works so wonderfully.

  6. oh, forgot to add: I'm still amazed how our little 4x4 mugs 'work' so well. but for this one I'd love to see a BIG version - like 20x20...???

  7. Thank you everyone for the comments.
YES the thicker paintings while still wet are hard to photograph -at least for me. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Regula - WHAT?? I can see how that would be cool but 4 x 4 paintings still take me a couple of hours. Then I tweak for another couple more hours sometimes. I don't think I'm up to a 20x20 yet.....then again it would be a good challenge.
