oil on gessoboard
A portrait of my sweet mother, taken from a snapshot. My parents passed away at a young age and so suddenly, we don't have any formal or even very clear photos of them. I was telling a friend how surprised I was to find myself remembering details as I painted this. This was done because of a challenge to "paint your parents" posted on the Daily Paintworks site, and I'm grateful for it because it's something I've wanted to do but have put off for a long time. So, on to Dad.
Beautiful tribute, love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Trayce
DeleteTerri, I am so touched to see this portrait and to read your words of love...
ReplyDeleteThank you Meredith. This was painted with love and with a bit of pain. She was beautiful but she didn't recognize that in herself. She was fully devoted to being our mother although she could have had a far more interesting life. She had a natural talent for drawing and I still have her sketchbook of fantastic figurative and fashion illustrations. I have no doubt that as a child, watching her draw was the best art lesson I've had.
DeleteTerri,
ReplyDeleteThis is such a Brave endeavor. I can only imagine what it felt like as your beautiful Mother appeared with each brushstroke. Hope this painting reminds you of happy times.
