Cattatude

20 X 30
Oil on Canvas

I bet I'm not the only artist to be relieved when a painting is completed because I'm itching to get on to the next thing, and at the same time experiencing some remorse that it's finished because it was so fun to paint.  This is our attitudinal family member, Kitty Pie, posing among our porch flowers last spring. This was the first time I did an underpainting in complementary colors and although they didn't come through very well in this photo of the painting, it really made the colors pop.  For a large painting like this, it's clearly worth the effort.

  1. Love this one...great composition. I haven't tried a complimentary undercoating but it is something I should definitely try.

  2. Congratulations! That is a big one. I understand perfectly. Sometimes when I have almost finished a painting, I have to be careful not to mentally move on to the next one.
Love this one. The cat definitely has attitude.

  3. I don't know how I missed this one earlier! Love your flowers! Those hydrangeas are gorgeous. I have not had the courage to tackle flowers yet. I bet the undercoating really enhances the flowers. The cat fur looks so soft.
    Very much worth the effort!
